Buddy
Michael “Buddy” Kevin Meade, Jr.

Buddy was born on September 11, 2008, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He loved Jesus! Even at a very young age, Buddy was an “old soul” and kindhearted boy. It was not uncommon for him to always pray for others and comfort those in need around him. Buddy loved Thomas the Train, matchbox cars, and OU.
Buddy's Journey
Buddy was first diagnosed with leukemia (ALL) at the age of six in the summer of 2015. He tolerated treatment very well, even with experimental drugs. On November 13, 2015 (his mother’s birthday), Buddy received a bone marrow transplant. His leukemia was in remission, and Buddy was doing extremely well. Make-A-Wish arranged for Buddy and his family to go to Boston, Massachusetts, to see Thomas the Train.

Red skin rashes started to appear on Buddy’s skin that caused concern. On November 16, 2017, doctors confirmed Buddy’s cancer had returned. The cancer cells were hiding behind his pancreas. He never complained about anything and always made sure other people were okay before him. Throughout the many trials and obstacles Buddy faced, he remained strong and continued to love Jesus and pray.

It was an uphill battle, and Buddy faced many difficult struggles along the way. On March 2, 2018, Buddy received a second bone marrow transplant. He died 20 days later on March 22, 2018, in the ICU at OU Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Buddy was a warrior. He was tremendously loved and was a true blessing to all those who knew him. He left a huge impact on his family, friends, doctors, nurses, Toby Keith Korral employees, as well as OU coaches and players.

Although we miss Buddy greatly, we rejoice in the fact he is in Heaven having the time of his life.
